A special kind of radiation can be given to people who develop scattered, painful bone tumors that don't respond to chemotherapy. These tumors can't be easily treated with localized radiation because the area needing treatment is too big. The radioactive chemical strontium-89 can be given intravenously (injected into one of your veins) as a one-time dose. The bone-making cells and the cancer cells in the bone take up the radiation given off by these chemicals. The treatment generally reduces pain, but it can make you more prone to infection, anemia, and bleeding problems.

Then there are the cardiovascular problems. Because of the way they affect heart cells, anabolic steroids can cause chronic high blood pressure, as well as enlargement of the heart. Your cholesterol levels also get thrown out of balance, since your steroid-saturated body is producing more LDL cholesterol and less HDL cholesterol , which is the opposite of what the American Heart Association recommends. The hormonal effects of steroid use also increase your risk of prostate cancer (if you’re male) and can cause kidney and liver damage.

Help I have a friend who is a gym goer Im not sure of his quantity or how long he has been taking steroids, but stopped recently because he had really bad neck pain. No dr or scan, ultrasound etc showed anything. Put on huge pain killer amounts didnt help alot but felt after about six weeks some relief. Until today when he thinks a prior knee issue has flared up. If this a result of steroid abuse how long before it heals? Im pretty sure he wont touch them again. He can handle all over aches and pains but these last two injuries have had him off work.
